Fine Motor:
- Button Rub: (Materials Required - Coins, poker chips or flat buttons; white/light paper; and crayons, ideally with the paper removed). Have your child place a poker chip, coin or button under a piece of paper. Next have them use their fingers to feel the exact location of the button then rub the side of the crayon over the top of the "button" to create a crayon rubbing of the entire item. They should then move the button to a new location and repeat until they have created a picture such as a caterpillar, vase of flowers, bunch of balloons, etc. They will most likely have to add some drawing to the picture to complete it; for example, add legs, eyes, mouth, and antenna to finish the caterpillar.
- (Materials Required - Index cards or file folders, colored glue or Elmers glue and glitter or small torn pieces of colored paper.) Have your child write a letter on an index card (or file folder) then trace that letter with colored glue. If they use Elmers glue, they should next sprinkle glitter or put small pieces of colored paper onto the wet glue. Make sure your child is forming the letter correctly when writing and tracing it with glue, i.e. starting and stopping at the correct place.
