Fine Motor:
- March Lamb: Materials Needed (a white paper plate or have your child (or yourself) draw and cut out a large circle out of paper, cotton balls, glue, scissors, paper, and crayons, colored pencils, markers or paint.) Have your child use their pincher fingers (index finger and thumb) to pull the cotton balls apart and then glue them all over the plate or circle to make the lamb's face. You or your child should draw eyes, a nose and what you think a lamb's ear shape would be onto paper. Have your child color them in and cut them out if they are able. Next glue them on to make the eyes, nose and ears. Alternative: Instead of cotton balls you could use shaving cream mixed with glue to make the face by mixing equal parts shaving cream and glue and having your child use their hands to mix it together and then tap the mixture onto the circle so that it goes on fluffy. Please remember that whenever doing a craft activity it is the process not the end product! Let your child do it as independently as they can even if at the end it doesn’t look like what it is supposed to.
- Use wikki stix or pipe cleaners to form letters and/or words.
- Steam Roller - Have your child lie on the floor on their belly and “steam roll” them with an exercise ball or a foam roller. If you don't have these you can always gently push down on their body with a pillow. Make sure to avoid their head or any body parts that may be injured.
