Handwriting:
- Go to the DEW Handwriting Program tab on this website.
- Print out c-curve letter practice pages.
- Please practice these letters making sure you start with a c-curve that starts at the middle line.
- Parents please make sure your child is forming the letters correctly. Give them visual and verbal cues to help them as needed.
- Younger students: write out the c-curve letters so that they are at least 1" in height. Have your child trace the letters. Give them a starting dot as needed.
- If your student is just learning to copy the letter: give them a 1" large box and write the c-curve letter above the box. Have them copy the letter inside the box. Give them a starting dot as needed.
- Older students: practice words that start with c-curve letters.
Fine Motor:
- Capture the creatures:
- Materials needed: small sea figurines (or any figurine), painters tape or any kind of tape
- Use medium sized strips of tape to tape down “capture” the creatures. The more criss cross tape strips you use the harder it will make it to “free” the creatures.
- Variation: Once the creatures are free, ask your child to “capture” them again. They can reuse the strips that they took off (good for bilateral integration) or they can practice ripping the tape (after you demonstrate for them how to hold the tape with their fingers and then rip-one hand towards your body and the other one moves away). This will work on motor planning and fine motor skills.
Sensorimotor:
- Flying Clouds:
- (Materials Required - one straw and tissue per child) Instruct your child to use their straw to blow the tissue across the area. The goal is to keep their tissue in the air versus letting it hit the floor. If more than one child is playing have them spread out within a designated area.
- Continue practicing at typing.com or Typing Agent.
- Continue to practice shoe tying, buttoning, and/or zipping.
- Continue to perform the Chore of the Day/Week.
- Continue to identify your zone and use strategies to adjust as needed.
