This week in Kindergarten OT we did a color, cut, hole punching and lacing activity for Veteran's Day. Many of our students had a difficult time with lacing. Please dig out those old lacing cards and practice with your child. Lacing cards are a great way to work on bilateral integration (using right side of body with left side), sequencing and fine motor skills. We made our own lacing cards by using a hole puncher. Hole punching is a great way to work on hand strength and the kids love using them! At some craft stores you can find hole punchers that make different shapes. When doing the lacing card please make sure your child is following the correct sequence and doing a front/back pattern (as shown below).
Last week in OT we practiced our handwriting in shaving cream. The students loved this! Please remember to keep handwriting practice fun:) Practice making letters and shapes in shaving cream, pudding, salt, flour, etc. Make sure you are using the same terminology as we are (i.e. tall line down, short line down, c-curve, sliding line down and sleeping line across)
